WeatherPhilippines, in partnership with the Sarangani Energy Corporation (SEC), has recently deployed a new Automated Weather Station (AWS) which will be installed in SEC’s new powerplant.
The partnership agreement between the two organizations was signed last February 3, 2016.
In addition to the existing network of 124 AWS in Mindanao, the newly added AWS for SEC will enable Mindanao local governments and businesses to utilize weather data for disaster-preparedness, agriculture, and business continuity.
“This is a good tool for the power plant’s main and port operations which includes pro-active monitoring of potential typhoons and disaster related risks for the plant” says SEC Plant Manager Jori Liimatta.
This timely deployment will also help Mindanao communities make informed decisions based on accurate weather data, which will help them combat the onslaught of El Niño, and the recent grassfires in Sarangani.
The AWS in Mindanao are installed in priority meteorological sites, which were identified by WeatherPhilippines Meteorologists as locations and areas frequently affected by weather disturbances.
The localized weather information from all 777 Automated Weather Stations in the Philippines can be accessed via weather.com.ph, and the free WeatherPhilippines mobile application.
