Weather Solutions to help facilitate water utility efficiencies

Manila Water to use weather data to improve business operations

Metro Manila’s east zone water and wastewater services provider Manila Water Company, Inc. has tapped the services of Weather Solutions, Inc. to access critical weather information that would help make its dam operations and management more efficient.

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last June 13, Weather Solutions will be providing Manila Water with forecast weather data for its source dams, monthly observed weather statistics report, El Niño and La Niña probability report, severe rain alerts, as well as weather data analysis that would help in formulating smart and calculated business decisions.

“The weather information that we will be getting from Weather Solutions will be essential in advancing the way we do business. This will improve our decision-making processes, as well as the overall business continuity strategies that we have,” said Manila Water Chief Information Officer and General Manager for Business and Technology Services Liwayway T. Sevalla.

Weather Solutions President Jojo Z. Marasigan said the company is constantly on the lookout for improved ways of providing advanced data utilization to its business partners. “As we stand on fertile ground, we continuously explore innovations such as the integration of advanced technologies involving weather data processing in our current operations,” he said.

Weather Solutions will be Manila Water’s exclusive weather data provider from 2019 to 2020. Throughout this period, the partnership will explore more ways to utilize weather data for water utility operations.

Weather Solutions continues to open its doors to partnerships with other companies and developers. Currently, Meralco and SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) using Weather Solutions’ Application Programming Interface (API) for their forecast weather data, which was customized for their specific business requirements. The API offered by Weather Solutions presents weather data and splices it into various offerings that are relevant to the clients’ and developer partners’ industry needs.

This API farm will expose the relevant weather parameters of the more than 700 weather stations installed in various locations throughout the country, enabling companies and developers to seamlessly integrate weather information to their operations as well as in developing new applications.
