Typhoon MARIA (GARDO) Final StormWatch

Current Status and Outlook Typhoon MARIA (GARDO) downgraded from Super Typhoon has moved out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) after traversing the Miyako and Yaeyama Group of Islands this afternoon.

Where is MARIA (GARDO)? As of 5:00 PM PhT today, July 10…0900 GMT. The eye was located over the southern most part of the East China Sea (near 25.1N 124.6E), about 306 km east of Taipei, Taiwan or 578 km north-northeast of Basco, Batanes
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg):  195 kph near the center…Gustiness: 230 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs) West-Northwest @ 30 kph, towards Fujian Province, Southeastern China.
Forecast Highlights
  • MARIA (GARDO) is forecast to pass along the offshore areas of Northern Taiwan late tonight through early Wednesday morning (July 11), and will make landfall over Fujian Province on or before noontime Wednesday
  • Even if it is outside of PAR, this typhoon will still induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring cloudy skies with scattered to occasional rain showers and thunderstorms across MiMaRoPa, the Western Sections of Luzon and Visayas  today through Wednesday (July 11).
