Typhoon KONG-REY (QUEENIE) Final StormWatch

Current Status and Outlook Typhoon (TY) KONG-REY (QUEENIE) has accelerated Northward, and finally moved out of the Northern border of PAR this afternoon. It was losing much of its intensity while traversing on a region of relatively low sea surface temperature (SST) in the wake of the previous Typhoon TRAMI (PAENG). Dry air to the West of it has also taken its toll on what is left of its energy.

This Typhoon is not expected to affect any part of the Philippines based on the current WPF Forecast. 

Where is KONG-REY (QUEENIE)? As of 5:00 PM PhT today, October 04…0900 GMT. The cloud-filled eye was located over the North Philippine Sea (near 25.1°N 126.7°E), about 704 km northeast of Basco, Batanes or 143 km east-northeast of Miyakojima
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 110 kph near the center…Gustiness: 140 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs) North-northwest @ 25 km/hr, towards the Southern East China Sea.

  • This tropical cyclone will continue losing strength through the next 24 hours as it becomes an extratropical system while pulling away from our area of responsibility.
