Tropical Storm MUIFA (DANTE) StormWatch No. 02

Current Status and Outlook Tropical Storm MUIFA (DANTE) upgraded from Tropical Depression this morning and has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this morning. This storm remains not a threat to the Philippine Islands.
Where is Muifa (Dante)? As of 8:00 PM PhT today, April 26…1200 GMT.  The center was located along the easternmost part of the Central Philippine Sea (near 14.1N 134.2E), about 1,070 km east of Virac, Catanduanes or 993 km east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. 
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 75 kph near the center…Gustiness: 95 kph
Where is it heading? It was moving North-Northwest @ 13 kph, towards Central Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights
  • The Global Typhoon Models (GTM) continues to show TS Muifa will maintain its strength and shall start to recurve, away from the Philippine Sea beginning tomorrow (Thu Apr 27).
  • The latest 24 to 48 Forecast shows TS Muifa exiting the PAR by Thu evening or Friday morning (Apr 27 or 28).  This forecast is now at HIGH CONFIDENCE.
  • TS Muifa remains far to directly affect any part of the Philippines and will remain a non-threat system to the country.
