Current Status and Outlook

VONGFONG (AMBO) rapidly decaying over the Balintang Channel as it weakens into a Tropical Depression…expected to accelerate northeastward across the East Taiwan Sea. Scattered thunderstorms will continue to persist across Northern Luzon through Sunday.

24-hr Outlook: TD VONGFONG (AMBO) is forecast to move northeastward @ 24 km/hr and will degenerate into a Tropical Disturbance (LPA) through Sunday afternoon (May 17).

Where is VONGFONG (AMBO)? As of 5:00 PM PhT today, May 16…0900 GMT. The ill-defined center was located over the western part of the Balintang Channel (near 19.5°N 120.3°E), about 115 km north-northwest of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte or 215 km southwest of Itbayat, Batanes.
