Current Status and Outlook Tropical Storm LEKIMA (HANNA) has intensified and continues to pose a threat to Batanes while drifting erratically  west-northwestward over the North Philippine Sea during the past 24 hours.

TS  LEKIMA (HANNA) together with the active Monsoon Trough will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring generally cloudy conditions with “on-&-off” rains and thunderstorms across MiMaRoPa and the Western Sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas today through Wednesday (Aug 07).

Where is LEKIMA (HANNA)? As of 5:00 AM PhT today, August 06…2100 GMT. The center was located over the southern  part of the North Philippine Sea [near 18.7°N 129.0°E], about 758 km east-southeast of Basco, Batanes or 971 km east-northeast of Metro Manila
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 85 kph near the center, with gustiness: 100 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) Westward @ 05 kph, towards the Western Part of the North Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights
  • The Day 3 to 4 Forecast (Aug 07-09) remains unchanged over the past 24 hours and still shows TS LEKIMA (HANNA) becoming a Typhoon on Thursday (Aug 08) as it tracks generally Northwestward, and could make landfall over Northern Taiwan on Friday early morning (Aug 09) with medium uncertainty. Forecast confidence at this time is at  MEDIUM (35% to 65% chance).
  • TS Lekima (Hanna) is likely to exit the northwestern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday morning, Aug 09.
  • The presence of this Tropical Cyclone and the Monsoon Trough will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and could bring generally cloudy skies with occasional rains, some gusty winds and thunderstorms across MiMaRoPa and the western sections of Southern Luzon including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas through Wednesday (Aug 07). Please be advised that severe thunderstorms may also occur across these areas which could cause flash floods and landslides. Precautionary measures must be implemented during the occurrence of this monsoon system.
